There’s a song we sing in the Swing Dusters, the Western Swing Band I am in with Robert Parsons and a wonderful group of musicians. It’s called “My Adobe Hacienda.” It’s very sweet, and this little series I’m working on (there will be more) is inspired by the song. These are just underpaintings, but you get the idea. The large painting is 16×20 and on stretched linen. The smaller painting is 8×10 and on gessoed panel.
My Adobe Hacienda
In my adobe hacienda
there’s a touch of Mexico
cactus lovelier than orchids
blooming in the patio
soft desert stars
and the strum of guitars
makes every evening seem so sweet
in my adobe hacienda
life and love are more complete
in my adobe hacienda
nested in the western hills
evening breezes softly murmur
harmony with whippoorwills
when setting sun says
the long day is done
sweet music starts to fill the air
in my adobe hacienda
harmony is everywhere
