Behind the Scenes: Preparing Small Works for the Holiday Show

The studio is buzzing with energy as I prepare for the upcoming Holiday Small Works Show at Parsons Gallery of the West. This year, I’m working on a series of intimate miniature paintings that capture the essence of Taos — adobe walls, Pueblo architecture, and the quiet poetry of doorways and landscapes.

The photo above offers a little glimpse behind the curtain: three works in progress, each on a small panel, each waiting for its final layers of paint and detail. Even in their unfinished state, you can already feel the atmosphere of Taos — the bold light, the timeless adobe, and the stories etched into every corner of the landscape.

What I love most about these smaller works is their immediacy. At just a few inches wide, each one becomes a distilled piece of Taos — perfect for collectors looking to bring home a slice of the Southwest or gift a piece of original art during the holidays. Small works are approachable, affordable, and endlessly collectible.

I can’t wait to share the finished pieces with you at the show. The opening reception takes place on Friday, December 12, from 5–8 p.m., and it’s always a warm, festive gathering. These little paintings will be framed and ready for new homes, so if one speaks to you, I recommend arriving early.

For now, consider this your sneak peek — a behind-the-scenes look at the making of something small, soulful, and distinctly Taos.

Stay tuned — more to come as the series develops!
